Occasion: Couples Trip

Date of Stay: March 2023

For the last few years, we have been spoilt for choice with all new resort openings around Mexico. With all these openings we overlooked The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort which has been a fixture in the Mexico luxury resort scene since 2008. With age comes experience and I found the service The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort more polished than many other resorts I have stayed at in Mexico.

A promotion at the property caught our eye and since Clements Travel has several clients who are loyal Marriott Bonvoy members, we felt the stars aligned and it was our duty to go out and see what The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort had to offer.

The hotel is currently undergoing an extensive renovation with the majority of guest rooms being updated already. Due to our relationship with Marriott we were able to request one of the newly renovated rooms.

The review below covers all things St Regis Punta Mita Resort, including how to achieve even better value by applying Marriott STARS benefits,  so be sure to keep reading to find out how you can save hundreds of dollars when staying here.

St.Regis Punta Mita Resort Bedrooms and Suites

The St.Regis Punta Mita Resort has 120 guest rooms and suites which gives it a more boutique feel than the Four Seasons Punta Mita Resort next door which has 177.  The rooms are spread out in various buildings over 22 acres of perfectly landscaped tropical gardens.

We originally booked a Deluxe Guest Room, King, Garden View Terrace but thanks to the Marriott STARS program we were upgraded to a Deluxe, Ocean View, King with Terrace on arrival.

Our room had excellent proportions with a large main sleeping and living room, a marbled bathroom, and a good-sized terrace. The total size being 600 sqft/54 sqm which is nearly twice the size of your normal hotel room. We enjoyed the character of the room which was styled as Mexico hacienda (think beamed ceilings and Mexican tiles on the floor) but with a modern and elevated appearance.

The private entrance led to a small foyer with a beautiful floral display which was nice to look at each time we entered the room.  The table in the foyer was also handy for when room service came in and didn’t want to disturb us – most of the time they could just leave our order on the table.

From the foyer, there was a large open-plan bedroom that contained a king-sized bed, a day bed-type sofa, dining table that also doubled as a work desk.  The textures from the rugs, headboard, cushions rugs, woven headboard, and leather chairs gave the room a warm homely feel. A large flat-screen TV was mounted to the wall.

It was evident that the hotel put a lot of effort into the bathroom design during the renovations.  The bathroom was complete marble with a double sink and, a walk-in shower which also housed an oversized bathtub.  Bathtubs can be a rarity in Mexico so this was a welcome addition to the room.

The best feature of the room was the terrace which compared to other hotels was of a large size. Well furnished with a day bed sofa and a dining table for two where we enjoyed having breakfast one on of the mornings. The dining table also doubled as my office for the week (when taking Zoom calls many clients commented on the beautiful background.  Views of the tropical gardens and ocean were enjoyed from the terrace.

The Lobby & Altamira Cantina Gourmet

The open-air lobby has the most stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and is decorated beautifully with floral displays.

It also doubles as home to Altamira Cantina Gourmet one of the resort’s 5 restaurants and bars.  Due to the direct views of the Pacific Ocean, we came here each day to enjoy the sunset and sundowner cocktails.

This is the perfect space to experience a range of Mexican street food in an intimate setting. From tacos to ceviche, the chefs have created some truly tasty dishes.

The spaced seating, stunning sunset, and cocktails created an overall perfect dining experience.

Fine Dining Experience: Carolina Restaurant

Carolina is the fine dining restaurant at The St Regis Punta Mita and was the dining experience I was looking forward to the most due to its AAA Five Diamond Award rating and it did not disappoint.

Carolina’s menu was an exciting mix of traditional regional ingredients and flavors, with a modern twist. Dishes are crafted with local produce and sustainably sourced seafood.  Many resorts are very seafood-focused and it was refreshing to see it featured # meats from various regions in Mexico.

Each dish was paired with a selection of Mexican wines.

Most guests chose to dine on the restaurant’s terrace due to the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and tropical gardens.
