Waldorf Astoria Osaka Review – My Stay + Hilton Impressario VIP Benefits

Osaka was once a destination many people simply passed through on their way to Tokyo or Kyoto, but over the past few years the hotel scene here, and Osaka as a destination in general, is hot right now. The Japanese call Osaka “Japan’s Kitchen” and this is absolutely true, not only because of the concentration of Michelin level dining, but also because the street food scene is like nothing we have experienced before anywhere else in Japan.

Kyoto is still fantastic, but it is getting seriously expensive. There is even talk of a 10,000 yen per room tax coming in, which is only going to push prices higher. Osaka is only around an hour away and for those seeking a true luxury hotel, you can get the same level of luxury, if not better, in Osaka as you do in Kyoto and at times this can be at roughly half the price.

This is our honest Waldorf Astoria Osaka review based on our stay in December 2025, and everything written here is from first-hand experience.

Waldorf Astoria Osaka was only six months old when we stayed, so there was not a great deal of chatter online about it and we genuinely did not know what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised and it turned out to be one of our top stays in Japan. The opening of Waldorf Astoria Osaka, followed by Four Seasons Osaka, shows just how serious this city is becoming as a luxury destination.

Getting There And Check In

I do not know what I was expecting with this stay. There was not a lot of chatter about this property online as it was only six months old and my two previous Waldorf Astoria stays in other countries were good, but not overly memorable. We were only staying here for two nights, so if it was not great it was not the end of the world as we had not centered our entire trip around this hotel.

We arrived at Osaka Station after a stay at Amanemu. One of the best things here is that Waldorf Astoria Osaka is at Osaka Station and it is an easy three to five minute walk.

Using online mapping tools, I sketched this simple visual to show the hotel’s position and its proximity to Osaka Station.

We were taken aback because on our last visit to this part of Osaka back in 2019, it was not a very good looking area at all. Quite run down. Between then and now it has had a total overhaul and is now a modern, metropolitan space full of shopping, restaurants, public spaces and green spaces. We counted at least two luxury fashion malls within a few minutes walking distance, and my favorite electronics superstore, about ten stories high, is right there as well, Edion Namba. Once you see all of this, it makes sense why people end up needing extra suitcases.

We later found out that the owners of Waldorf Astoria own most of the land in this area and redeveloped it, which was very much needed.

The hotel was well staffed and there was a good amount of staff out front to take our suitcases. In fact, we never saw our suitcases again until they arrived in our room. The lifts to the 29th floor are fast and we were whisked up like VIPs to the main lobby level, then bypassed reception and given an in room check in. I wish every hotel did this. For a hotel this new, it felt surprisingly polished.

One of the hotel corridors, where you can see that blend of Waldorf Astoria New York style with Japanese design coming through.

About Waldorf Astoria Osaka

Waldorf Astoria Osaka is a modern new build with 252 rooms and suites. Yes, it has those familiar art deco references to the flagship Waldorf Astoria New York, which everyone knows, but it does not feel like an American hotel that has been dropped into Japan. Everything has been adapted to suit the Japanese market, and you really start to notice those local touches as you move through the hotel and as I talk more about the rooms, dining and overall stay later in this trip report. So many big American luxury hotels end up beige, bland and all looking the same. That is definitely not the case here.

Japanese artwork and cultural design elements inside Waldorf Astoria Osaka

My golden rule of travel is that I never stay at a new opening in its first year, because there is nothing more frustrating than arriving at a “luxury” hotel and they are still working out the kinks. I obviously broke my golden rule on this trip. Thankfully, this was absolutely not an issue.

They have clearly brought great leadership and a motivated team with strong management. You can feel it throughout the hotel.

Premier Room at Waldorf Astoria Osaka showing the modern luxury design and spacious layout

Waldorf Astoria Osaka Rooms Review

In this Waldorf Astoria Osaka rooms review, I want to focus on space, practicality, comfort and whether it actually works for real travellers, couples and families.

We were upgraded from a Deluxe Room to a Premier Room. Deluxe is around 48sqm and Premier around 53sqm. That extra space mainly goes into the walk in wardrobe, which makes a surprising difference.

Because it is a new build, the rooms are extremely practical because they could design them from scratch. At 53sqm this is the size of a suite at many hotels in other countries, but here it is simply a very good sized room. All rooms have a king bed which was comfortable — not just “fine,” we slept well. Instead of a cold work desk, they have used a round dining style table which gives the room a more homely feel and is actually more useful. There is also a sofa which turns into a sofa bed, so this becomes a really good option for families.

There are the right modern touches. such as:

  • Electric drapes
  • 55 inch Chromecast TV
  • USB C charging
  • Nespresso
  • Fully stocked minibar

The minibar selection in our room, interestingly featuring several American whiskeys alongside Japanese touches elsewhere in the hotel.

I did laugh slightly at the amount of American whiskey in the minibar, given Japan has one of the most respected whiskey scenes in the world. But this is Hilton consistency. During this trip I also got quite addicted to Japanese green tea, so I loved the traditional cast iron tea set in the room.

The View

The view was one of the highlights of the room. We had a river view which was beautiful, especially in the evening.

I am really glad I toured the property with the Waldorf Astoria sales team because the view is very different depending on what side you are on. I now feel much more confident requesting the “right” views for my clients, because I have seen them myself, and this is something I will talk through with clients at the time of booking. Sometimes we cannot guarantee a view but we will always request it.

Dining At Waldorf Astoria Osaka

Dining at Waldorf Astoria Osaka was very good overall. The hotel has a few different venues, each with its own atmosphere, and we found the quality and service to be consistently strong throughout our stay.

Peacock Alley at Waldorf Astoria Osaka, the hotel’s signature lounge and social space.

Peacock Alley

You will find a Peacock Alley at every Waldorf Astoria around the world, but the Osaka one feels particularly impressive. In fact, this is one of the better Peacock Alleys I have been to and definitely one of the most elaborate. I also love the story behind the name. At the original Waldorf Astoria New York, wealthy guests would stroll through the hotel in their finest outfits purely to be seen. Journalists started calling it “Peacock Alley” because people literally paraded up and down like peacocks showing off their feathers. The name stuck, and it became part of the brand’s heritage.

Food and drinks at Peacock Alley, where we spent time enjoying cocktails, light bites and afternoon tea.

Thankfully it is not pretentious like that anymore. Here in Osaka, Peacock Alley acts as a lounge and bar, but it has clearly become the place for afternoon tea. Afternoon tea seems to be the latest craze in Japan right now and out of all the hotels we stayed at, this was easily the busiest and most in-demand tea experience we saw. One afternoon we stopped in for a quick cocktail before heading out, got chatting with the staff about how popular it is, and they kindly brought over a few samples. The cakes were not only visually beautiful but genuinely delicious.

The Peacock Alley outdoor terrace during our December stay looks a little bare in winter, but you can really imagine this being a fantastic spot for dining and drinks in the warmer months.

What really elevates this space is how it is designed. The double-height floor-to-ceiling windows span almost two levels and give sweeping views over Osaka. There is also an outdoor terrace, which is rare for a city hotel lounge like this. At the time of our visit it was just a lovely space to sit outside, but there are rumours that eventually this may become a cigar area, which would suit the vibe perfectly.

The famous Peacock Alley “Meet Me at the Clock” centerpiece, a nod to the heritage of Waldorf Astoria New York.

In the center sits the iconic Waldorf Astoria clock. “Meet me at the clock” started in New York, and it is nice seeing that heritage carried through to Osaka. While Peacock Alley pays tribute to New York with little design touches, those skyline views make it very clear you are in Osaka.

It feels like a proper jazz bar, the cocktails are outstanding, the space is beautiful and again, there are views over Osaka. Canes and Tales was better than some of the famous “best bars in the world” we visited on this trip, so I would not at all be surprised to see it land on those lists soon.

Jolie Brasserie

Jolie Brasserie is bright, relaxed and has an easy feel to it. It is not formal and it does not take itself too seriously, which I appreciated. This is where breakfast is served and if you book through Hilton Impresario you receive breakfast for two daily, which genuinely helps because breakfast in luxury hotels is never cheap. The big floor to ceiling windows give the room a nice open feel, so it is a pleasant place to start the day rather than feeling enclosed.

Breakfast is served here and, in true Asia luxury hotel style, it is extensive. I would honestly say it felt like well over 100 options between hot dishes, pastries, Japanese specialties, a surprisingly large Chinese section, fruit, salad stations, yogurts, chia cups and lighter choices. There is also an a la carte menu and the nice thing is you can mix the buffet with a la carte, which is included if you book through Hilton Impresario benefits. So you really are not short of choice.

There is an open kitchen as well, which gives it a bit more life and makes it feel less formal. The brasserie is open throughout the day, with only a short break between breakfast and lunch service, and it keeps that same relaxed, bright, airy feel in the evening too rather than becoming overly formal or trying to be something it is not.
